AN EPIC EXPERIENCE
MOUNT TOUBKAL & THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS November 7-11th 2024
Marrakech, Mt. Toubkal & The Atlas Mountains
PLEASE NOTE: We will be running two different groups for this trip!
Group 1 - ADVENTUROUS - This group will be taken to climb Mt Toubkal at 4,127m - this is a challenging hike and will require a good level of cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance.
Group 2 - STEADY - This group will still get to explore the beautiful Atlas mountains, but instead the trip will be easier, with less altitude and more time exploring the different Berber villages. It will still involve approx 5 hours of walking per day, but not as intense.
On this 4 day adventure to Morocco, you will be taken to the peak of Mount Toubkal (4,127m), the highest mountain in Northern Africa. You will discover the high atlas mountains as well as Berber villages on this three days trek to Mt Toubkal. In addition to climbing the highest mountain in North Africa and exploring the incredible Atlas mountains, you will also get to explore the bustling streets and culture of Marrakech. On the first evening, we will go out for a team dinner in the local M'dina markets. On the final night together post hiking, we will eat at one of the best restaurants in the M'dina where you can try the finest traditional Moroccan Tagine with incredible sunset views.
On days 2, 3 & 4 you will climb up to Mt Toubkal and hike through the wilderness, discovering some of the most spectacular places in the area, including the Imlil valley, the Toubkal Massif, the Sidi Chamarouch shrine, and the peak of Jbel Toubkal.
On the final day when we return to Marrakech, you will have the option to stay one more night and do a camel ride and dinner in the Agafay desert, just 60 minutes from Marrakech.
A TASTE OF THE TRIP
ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrive in Marrakesh
On day one you will arrive in Marrakech and will head to the accommodation for check-in upon arrival. There will be two different flight options for you to catch so we can arrange transportation to the accommodation. Depending on arrival time, you will have the day to explore Marrakech. In the evening we will have a team meal together in the centre of the M'Dina.
Day 2: Marrakesh
On Day 2, the team will drive to Imlil and trek to the Toubkal refuge. The walk is filled with amazing views and you will get an insight into the Moroccan culture as we pass through: the plunging valleys of the Toubkal Massif, small villages that cling to the sides of steep hills, the interesting mix of traditional farming and the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch which sits beside a small waterfall. Approx 5hrs walking.
Day 3: Refuge 3207m – Toubkal summit 4167m – Refuge 3207m.
As day 3 comes around we will trek to the summit of Toubkal and then return to Imlil. It will be a challenging day of walking but the breathtaking views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. Once we’ve arrived at the summit there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakech Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. You can either book a flight home or stay one more night in Marrakech - accommodation for final night can be sorted if you wish to stay and return the following day.
Day 4: Refuge 3207m – Imlil 1740m – Marrakech.
After breakfast, walk back down via the same route to Imlil valley where you will have lunch at a guesthouse before pick up & drive back to Marrakech. Around a 4 to 5h walk + 1h30 drive. You will then have the option to catch a late return flight, OR stay another night with the team and see more of Marrakesh.
Day 5: Marrakesh
On the final day, you will have the opportunity to try out a traditional Moroccan hammam, with different options for treatments. If you would like to stay one more night and go back on the Tuesday then you have the option on this evening to go to the Agafay desert for a sunset camel ride and dinner under the stars (highly recommended)
